2 suspected kidnappers arrested in Edo

The police have arrested two suspected kidnappers, Daniel Okoh and Adamu Shaibu, after collecting N1 million ransom from their victim, Destiny Okpuje, in Edo State.

 

It was gathered that the victim was kidnapped at the Iguoriakhi farm settlement and was later released after paying a ransom of N1 million to the kidnappers.

 

Speaking with journalists on the arrest, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Dankwara, said the victim and three others were attacked at the Iguoriakhi farm settlement by some armed kidnappers.

 

He said the kidnappers chased them and in the process, they succeeded in kidnapping Okpujie while the others escaped.

 

Dankwara said the victim was held hostage for three days and later set free after paying a ransom of N1 to the kidnapping gang.

 

He said on October 27, one of the kidnapping gang Daniel Okoh used a hidden phone number to call the victim, claiming that he was a member of the kidnappers gang that kidnapped him and that he should pay N200,000 into his Opay account.

 

He said through technical intelligence, the hidden number was unveiled and the suspects were arrested.

 

He added that the suspects have confessed to the crime and are helping the police in the investigation to arrest other fleeing suspects.

 

He said the suspects would be charged in court as soon as the investigation is completed.
