2023: TUC, NLC political participation will ensure practical ways to benefit Nigerians – TUC Chairman, Delta State

The Delta State Chairman of Trade Union Congress, Comrade Bolum Martin Nwachukwu has said that labour leaders in the country are working out modalities to launch the Nigerian Worker into politics.

Nwachukwu, while speaking to Jungle-Journalist.Com in. Asaba, argued that the government has made it imperative that the workers must go into active politics to work out the most practical ways of building a functional government of the people, and for the people.

The Labour Leader, who is also the South-south/Delta State Chairman of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) said that labour is currently busy with plans to go into active politics, and may not be ready for 2023 elections, as it must come up with programmes that will put a smile on the faces of Nigerians before ever going into politics.

His words “We don’t have a political front yet, but we are doing something about that. The last national executive meeting we had, TUC and NLC are working together to out up a front to see how we can either revive Labour Party or something like that. But first, we are working with organizations to see how we can build a platform.

“So, we cannot have the party for 2023, but we are already working on it. We have a bureau for this, and we have asked all the state labour chairmen in TUC and NLC to go back to their states and out up something. We are not looking at the way political parties operated in the past, this is a social development party.

“We will come up with programmes that must start before ever you go and ask for the peoples votes. You must start up something. If we can get the government to even build modular refineries for the workers, it’s an in. We now look at what affects the people and start it off, not promisory. You put something on ground. The people of this country want to see something happening.

“It is unfortunate our naira cannot buy us anything. There is a very big ill in this country that people are not looking. Young men are no longer interested in morality, they are no longer interested in working. All they want is quick money, that is why in this country, it is legalized to do yahoo and yahoo plus, ritual killing and nothing happens.

“Police will stop somebody- they do dreadlocks, they can be identified by anybody, the people of this country are even afraid of them.

“15, 16 years old boy killing to make money, what does he want to do with money? The system is decayed, it’s rotten, it’s smelling, so a party that Labour will form will be a party that will touch on the nucleus of these decays. We are not interested in somebody coming out because you are a Labour leader, you go there and join them. We have had it in the past. That’s not what we are looking at. We are not interested in breeding Oshiomoles, we don’t want people who would use Labour to climb, when you get there, you clamp on Labour.

“As soon as Oshiomole became governor, the first thing he did was to put NLC in the cooler. We are interested in people who really want to work and salvage this country. So we don’t belong to any political party now, buy we working on getting one, hut it will be the people’s movement, a Labour Party that’s truly Labour Party.

“You don’t need money to get in there and get a position. What you stand for, what you do will get you the people’s vote, not your money”, Nwachukwu concluded.
