28 Chairmen, Youths Overpower Police at Labour Party Secretariat

A wild drama occurred on Friday as visiting State Chairmen of Labour Party (LP) on Friday in Abuja forced their way into the party’s National Secretariat ahead of a meeting with Julius Abure, embattled national chairman of the party.

The delegation who were in Abuja to show their support for the LP’s executives who have been at the centre of conflicting Court Orders on their tenure was earlier prevented entry into the premises by a detachment of policemen allegedly deployed by the FCT Police Command.

The 28 state chairmen forced their way into the secretariat which is located in the Utako district near the federal capital territory office.

It can be recalled that Police officers on Thursday sealed the headquarters of the party due to the leadership crisis rocking the party.

Seven members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Party allegedly announced the National Vice-Chairman (South), Lamidi Bashir Apapa, as the acting chairman of the party.

However, Abure maintained that he remains the authentic chairman of the party.
