Mbah Approves Enugu City, GIS, And ENSIEC Bills With New Legislation

 

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, officially endorsed the New Enugu City Development Agency Bill, the Enugu State Geographical Information System Service Bill, and the Enugu State Independence Electoral Commission (ENSIC) (Amendment) Bill on Friday.

 

The signing ceremony, witnessed by the Enugu State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, took place at the Government House, Enugu.

 

Governor Mbah emphasized that the New Enugu City Development Agency Law empowers an administrative authority to oversee the development of a new city masterplan. This strategic plan aims to accommodate the needs of both the current and future generations, addressing the pressing issue of the city reaching its capacity. He highlighted the forward-thinking approach of the government, ensuring that subsequent administrations can continue expanding the city.

 

Regarding the Enugu State Geographical Information System Service Law, Governor Mbah explained its significance in automating and digitizing processes related to service delivery, with an initial focus on land-related services. This aligns with the administration’s commitment to streamline and modernize governance processes, fulfilling a campaign promise.

 

The Governor also shed light on the ENSIC Amendment Law, emphasizing its role in aligning the state’s electoral management body with constitutional amendments pertaining to electoral bodies as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution.

 

Governor Mbah praised the Enugu State House of Assembly for their swift support in passing these executive bills, emphasizing the crucial role of collaboration between the executive and legislative branches in driving development initiatives. He expressed gratitude for the Assembly’s unwavering support, recognizing their indispensable contribution to the state’s progress.
