Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, the former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, has officially left the APC to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The announcement has sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria’s political landscape.
Binani, popularly known as “Mama Adamawa,” was joined by thousands of her supporters in making the switch, as confirmed by multiple posts on X. The defection comes amid speculations of her alignment with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition figures forming a coalition against the ruling APC. Her move is seen as a significant boost for the ADC, which is positioning itself as a formidable opposition force ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former senator, who narrowly lost the 2023 Adamawa governorship election, has not publicly stated her reasons for leaving the APC, but political analysts suggest dissatisfaction with the party’s internal dynamics and strategic differences may have played a role.
Further details on her plans within the ADC are awaited as Nigeria’s political realignment intensifies.
