Abducted LP Senate Candidate in Ebonyi Finally Arraigned in Court After 31 Days in Prison

Hon. Linus Okorie, the abducted Ebonyi South senatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has finally been arraigned in the court 31 days after he was violently abducted by members of the Ebubeagu militia in Abakaliki.

Hon. Okorie a former two term member of the National Assembly was abducted by gun-wielding Ebubeagu operatives on October 16, 2022.

Confirming the abduction of the former lawmaker and opponent of Governor David Umahi in the senate seat contest, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr. Uchenna Orji had earlier told journalists that Hon Okorie was arrested for harbouring drug peddlers.

However, when the state government took Hon. Okorie before an Abakaliki Magistrate Court after he woke from coma, haven been tortured into unconsciousness, the State and the police slammed different charges including, abusing the governor, causing communal crises and murder on the former lawmaker.

An aide of the former lawmaker revealed that Hon. Okorie is currently before the Federal High Court Abakaliki where his lawyers will be filing for his bail.

The court premises is heavily cordoned by armed security personnel.
