Residents of Etiti village in Igbo-Ukwu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, were thrown into shock after a young man, long presumed to have relocated overseas, was found chained and locked inside a hut for nearly five years.
Jungle-Journalist.Com gathered that the victim, identified as Chigbo, popularly called Agudo, disappeared in July 2021. His family allegedly told friends and neighbors that he had traveled to Europe. That narrative crumbled over the weekend when locals traced strange sounds to an isolated structure, only to find him in a deplorable state, bound with corroded iron chains.
Rescue Mission and Viral Video
A disturbing video circulating on social media captured the dramatic rescue, showing the gaunt young man confirming, “I’ve been locked here since July 3rd, 2021.” Eyewitnesses revealed that the locks on the hut had rusted, forcing rescuers to break them before freeing him. For years, Chigbo endured total isolation without adequate food, hygiene, or medical care.
Community sources allege the victim’s father was responsible for the confinement, claiming his son was mentally unstable. The revelation has sparked outrage across social media, with residents condemning the act as “barbaric” and demanding justice.
Police Confirm Investigation, Promise Justice
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the victim is currently receiving urgent medical and psychological treatment. Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said investigations are ongoing, adding:
“This is an inhumane and degrading act. The culprits will face the full weight of the law.”
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the vigilance of the youths who exposed the crime and assured that those responsible will be prosecuted.
The shocking discovery has fueled calls for stricter laws and community vigilance to prevent similar cases of domestic imprisonment and abuse.
