As Christmas celebrations commenced in Arochukwu Kingdom, the traditional ruler, His Eminence Eze Dr. Eberechukwu Oji, has called on all sons and daughters of the kingdom to embrace unity and collective responsibility in building a peaceful and prosperous community.
The message was delivered on his behalf by His Royal Highness Eze Ibom Isii Eze Amos Egbu Okoro during the Interdenominational Carol of Nine Lessons, held on Wednesday at the Civic Centre, Oror, Arochukwu.
While extending Christmas goodwill to the people, Eze Amos praised the organisers of the Carol and urged residents to reflect deeply on their communal values. He noted that the season of Christ’s birth offers a unique opportunity to renew commitment to love, harmony, and positive living, drawing inspiration from the preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ.
Delivering the sermon, Reverend Udo Aha of Christ Ascension Church, who spoke on the theme “Aro Renaissance: The Reign of Jesus Christ in Arochukwu,” described Christmas as a symbol of divine salvation and freedom from sin. He challenged worshippers to examine their spiritual lives and embrace the message of redemption brought by Christ.
Referencing Luke Chapter 2, Reverend Aha highlighted the annunciation and birth of Jesus Christ, urging the congregation to consciously turn away from sin during the season of preparation. He stressed that welcoming the Saviour requires moral renewal and obedience to God’s teachings.
In his vote of thanks, Mazi Zulu Ofoelue, Secretary of the Central Planning Committee, expressed appreciation to the organising committee of the Interdenominational Carol of Nine Lessons, led by Reverend Victor Onwumere. He applauded the choirs for their dedication and high-quality performances, assuring participants that future editions of the Carol would be even more impactful. He also prayed for divine rewards for all those who contributed to the success of the event.
Speaking earlier, Reverend Onwumere, who chaired the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carol Sub-Committee, urged attendees to respect constituted authority and commended those who adhered strictly to the event’s guidelines. On behalf of Eze Dr. Eberechukwu Oji, he presented a cash gift of ₦50,000 to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church Choir.
One of the major highlights of the celebration was a keenly contested choir competition featuring mass choirs from several churches and communities, including Presbyterian, Catholic, Methodist, Cherubim and Seraphim, Winners Chapel, Assemblies of God, Hugh Goldie Chaplaincy, Ohafia, Ozu Abam, and Angelica Church. The Cherubim and Seraphim Church Arochukwu Mass Choir emerged winners, receiving a ₦50,000 cash prize.
Several clergymen and church leaders graced the event, including Very Reverend Nkem Ofoelue, Rt. Reverend N. O. Okereke, Pastor P.C. Ugoagha, Pastor David Nwaogu, Reverend Clinton I. Okoro, Apostle Elvis Anicho, Pastor Anyi Samuel, Pastor Agha Emmanuel, Reverend Benjamin O. Aka, Reverend Ambassador James I. Kanu, Pastor Onyebuchi Nwamuoh, Pastor Nwankwo Chukwudi, and Bishop Edwin Nwigwe.
