BREAKING: Former Edo State Governor arrested over N1.6bn fraud by EFCC


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has apprehended Lucky Igbinedion, a former governor of Edo State.

According to Premium Times, Igbinedion, who served as governor from 2007 to 2007, is being interrogated at the EFCC’s Abuja headquarters for allegedly diverting N1.6 billion in public funds.

According to reports, a loan acquired by the Edo State government was transferred to a company in which he had a stake.

Mr Igbinedion was charged by the EFCC in 2008 and found guilty of embezzling N2.9 billion from Edo State.

After pleading guilty to a single count charge that was reduced from 191 charges, he was sentenced to six months in prison.

Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC’s spokesman, confirmed the latest invitation but did not provide any other information.
