BREAKING: Reports Claim Ex-Anambra Governor Willie Obiano Has Died in London, No Official Confirmation Yet

Chief Willie Obiano is dead

Reports have circulated on Friday claiming that former Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has died in London. The news, which first emerged from online platforms, alleged that the former governor passed away in a London hospital after an undisclosed illness.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the claim remains unverified.

Obiano’s personal publicist, Mr. Tony Nezianya, told journalists he had not received any official information confirming the death. “I can’t confirm to you; I’m not aware of such news,” he said on Friday.

Government sources in Anambra and members of the former governor’s family have also not issued any statement confirming or debunking the reports, leaving the public in a state of uncertainty.

Chief Willie Obiano served as Governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022. Born on August 8, 1955, he hails from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area. Following his exit from office, he has been under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged mismanagement of public funds, including a reported N4 billion fraud case.

The news of his reported death has triggered reactions across political circles and among citizens of the state, many of whom are awaiting an official statement to clarify the situation.

As of press time, no authoritative source—including the family, the Anambra State Government, or the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)—has released a confirmation.

More details to follow as the situation develops.
