Chef Dammy Speaks on Plans to’rival’ Hilda Baci with 300 Bags of Beans

Nigerian chef Damilola Adeparusi, popularly known as Chef Dammy, has dismissed rumours that she’s planning to cook the world’s largest pot of beans.

The Ekiti-born culinary talent, who rose to fame during her 2023 cook-a-thon, addressed the speculation in a video shared on social media Wednesday. The buzz followed celebrity chef Hilda Baci’s recent record-breaking jollof rice feat, sparking online chatter about a possible “beans marathon.”

“Why Would I Cook Beans?”

Congratulating Hilda Baci, Chef Dammy called her achievement a win for Nigeria and Africa, but firmly denied any plans to compete.

“Some classmates ask me, ‘Dammy, do you really want to cook beans?’ Like, no! Why would I do that?” she laughed.

Grateful Despite Past Backlash

Currently enrolled in a professional culinary diploma at Hospitality Business School, Lagos, on a full scholarship, Chef Dammy thanked supporters, mentors, and well-wishers who have stood by her.

Reflecting on her 2023 cook-a-thon, she admitted she didn’t expect it to go viral. “I didn’t even tell my parents; they just saw me trending online. I was shocked,” she said, noting that the attention and criticism were emotionally draining.

Focus on Growth

Chef Dammy says her focus remains on honing her culinary skills and career, rather than chasing records or rumours. “My journey isn’t defined by comparisons. It’s about dedication to my craft,” she concluded.
