The United Action for Democracy (UAD) has mourned the death of its former Convener, Comrade Abiodun Aremu. Aremu, a foremost labour and pro-democracy activist died in a hit-and-run incident in Ota, Ogun State, on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
In a statement issued on Monday by the 9th National Administrative Committee (NAC) of the organization, the group described the late activist, fondly known as ‘Aremson’ as “a tireless fighter for justice, people’s power, and human liberation.”

The statement, signed by Comrade Baba Aye, Convener, and Comrade Zulu Ofoelue, General Secretary, noted that Aremu’s sudden death has left a painful void in the labour, pro-democracy, and civil society movements, both within and beyond Nigeria.
The group praised Aremu’s decades-long activism, citing his leadership in the Campaign for Democracy (CD), Joint Action Front (JAF), and Labour–Civil Society Coalition (LASCO), where he fought for democratic rights and good governance.
UAD also recalled his work with the Amílcar Cabral Ideological School (ACIS-M) and the Kolagbodi Memorial Foundation, where he trained young activists and deepened ideological education across Africa.
The committee emphasized his Pan-African vision and his solidarity with international struggles, particularly his engagement with the Cuban revolution, reflecting his belief that “the struggle for emancipation knows no borders.”
In its resolution, UAD:
1️⃣ Demanded a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death;
2️⃣ Called for the preservation of his ideological legacy through cadre education and mobilisation; and
3️⃣ Reaffirmed its commitment to unity among progressive forces in line with Aremu’s vision of people’s sovereignty and social transformation.
“Comrade Abiodun ‘Aremson’ Aremu lived and died as a revolutionary,” the statement concluded. “His ideas, sacrifices, and example remain a living inspiration to all who believe that another Nigeria — and another world — is possible.”
