Edo IRS Task Motorists On Compliance As Annual Renewal Of Proof Of Ownership Certificate Commences

 

Edo State Internal Revenue Service, EIRS, is tasking vehicle owners within the State to comply with the annual renewal of the Proof Of Ownership Certificate, POC, saying that the commencement is now in view.

 

The operation, according to a statement released by the Chairman, Taskforce on IGR

Edo State Internal Revenue Service John Osagie Inegbedion FCA, FCTI, is expected to begin from November 1, 2023.

 

Inegbedion disclosed that the new development follows the recent communique issued by the Joint Tax Board, JTB, on May 9, 2023.

 

He explained that the certificate, which comes with a cost of one thousand naira and is issued on an annual basis, is aimed at tracking and maintaining the integrity of all vehicles registered on the National Vehicle and Identification Scheme NVIS, database.

 

He stressed that the issuance of a Proof of Ownership Certificate will minimize incidences of car theft and recovery of stolen vehicles, adding that Its issuance will ensure easy verification of certificates, and trace of stolen vehicles as well as enable nationwide statistics of vehicles to be obtained easily.

 

While maintaining that, it will enhance the National Vehicle database for national security, planning, and economic development, Inegbedion said, the Revenue Service is expected during the activity to encourage vehicle owners with expired documents, urging them to visit any nearest EIRS Branch Office to revalidate their expired vehicle particulars.

 

He advised them to take advantage of the window by ensuring compliance, as the EIRS in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Vehicle Inspection Officers VIOs, Security Agencies, and Transport Unions, shall embark on a motor vehicle documentation and compliance exercise throughout the remaining months of 2023.

 

He warned against any contravention just as he added that those caught are likely to face prosecution in line with extant road traffic laws.
