Enugu 2023: Arranged endorsements won’t save PDP from imminent defeat – APGA

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has flayed the incumbent People’s Democratic Party for what it describes as arranged endorsements, saying that such efforts will not save the party from imminent defeat.

The leading opposition party in Enugu also said the PDP can use instruments of state to cajole traditional rulers to endorse its candidate but the election will be decided by ordinary citizens who have borne the brunt of PDP’s maladministration.

Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers were reported to have presented ‘ọfọ’, a traditional symbol of authority, to Peter Mbah, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Ndubuisi EnechiOnyia, the State Chairman of APGA, however, said the PDP is desperate to hold on to power, that is why Igwes are regularly called out of their domains in the service of the gubernatorial aspiration of their governorship candidate who is a lackey and cannot win this election on his own.

The party chair said it is laughable for a government that is notorious for grabbing communal lands and allotting the same to themselves and their cronies to now turn around to seek the blessing of traditional rulers.

“As far as APGA is concerned, the arranged endorsement and presentation of ‘ọfọ’ by the traditional rulers is a wasteful use of state resources. The people are angry at the failure of PDP to address basic governance issues in Enugu and will demonstrate this anger by massively voting for APGA.”
