Enugu 2023: Ekweremmadu, Odengene, Onoh opts out of guber primaries, as Peter Mbah is tipped as PDP flagbearer

Deputy President of the Senate and PDP governorship aspirant in Enugu State, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has said that he will not be participating in the PDP governorship primary election scheduled for this Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

In a statement signed by his campaign Director Hon Charles Ogbo Asogwa, Ekweremadu urged his supporters to remain peaceful, assuring to keep them abreast of the way forward.

Meanwhile, Barr Peter Mbah is expected to emerge having been named as Ugwuanyi’s successor.

Feelers about the choice of Mbah a former Commissioner under Governor Chimaraoke Nnamani emerged Tuesday morning.

It was later confirmed by former Governor and elder statesman Jim Nwobodo who described him as the choice of stakeholders.

The development is still being assimilated by other top aspirants.

In a related development, Dr. Josef-Ken Onoh, one of the aspirants, has congratulated Mr. Peter Mbah for his anticipated victory in today’s party primary.

Onoh also urged his supporters to switch their support to Mba in today’s primary election and in the subsequent general election.

Onoh said he had spoken with Mba on the phone where he wished him success towards the gubernatorial election, noting that he respects the wish of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi whom he said prefers that Mba succeeds him.

Already a top aspirant, Capt Evarest Nnaji (Odengene) has stepped down from the race.

In a letter to the State PDP Chairman dated May 25th 2022 Odengene said his decision is in good faith.

He also congratulated whoever emerges the party’s candidate.
