Enugu Guber 2023: Nkanu Stakeholders, Leaders, Traditional Rulers Present Consensus Candidate

Ahead of the March 11th governorship election in Enugu State, stakeholders, leaders, opinion moulders and traditional rulers drawn from the Six local government area of Enugu East Senatorial zone:- Isi-Uzo, Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, Nkanu East and Nkanu West LGAs, have presented the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as their consensus candidate.

At a meeting summoned by the Former Governor of Old Anambra State, HE Senator Jim Nwobodo in his Amaechi-Awkunanwu home on the 3rd of March 2023, the leaders from the zone said Mbah remains their only candidate and any other person running for election from the zone is on his own.

“Nkanu people took a decision that among all the candidates of all the political parties contesting for Governorship of Enugu state, endorsed and agreed to vote for Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Any other candidate of Nkanu extraction for the March 11 election outside Peter Mbah of the PDP is on his own and does not have Nkanu support nor will they have Nkanu vote on the March 11 Governorship election,” the communique issued at the end of the meeting reads in part.

The Communique which was presented by Hon Deacon Okey A. Ogbodo while condemning the “belligerent statement” by Okey Ezea, the Senator-elect of Enugu North senatorial zone, said they’re not at war with Nsukka people.

“That Nkanu people are not at war with Nsukka People despite the belligerent statement from one Senator-elect, Okey Ezea of Nsukka extraction.

“Nkanu is one and will continue to be one both now and after election.”

Reaffirming their belief in the existing zoning formula in Enugu State, the meeting called on all Nkanu people to come out en-mass to vote for Peter Mbah.

“That we affirm the already established Governorship rotation principal among the three Senatorial zones of Enugu State which has been effective since 1999 and will continue to rotate to the deserving Senatorial zone after Enugu East Senatorial zone would have ended it’s turn.

“Finally, all Nkanu people are therefore urged to troop out enmass to vote for Peter Mbah of the PDP on the March 11 election.”

The meeting was attended by political, religious, traditional leaders and other major stakeholders in Nkanu land including HE Senator Jim Nwobodo, HRH Igwe Julius Nnaji, Odezuluigbo III of Nike; HRH Igwe Abel Nwobodo of Nara, Igwe J.A.E Ogbodo of Amaechi-Uwani Awkwunawu; HRH Igwe Eddy Nweke, Hon Princess Peace Nnaji, Engr.
