*Urges Govt to reconsider it’s ban on tricycle
The umbrella body of Nkanu media practitioners have condemned the wanton klong of voters and destruction of property by gunmen during the last local government elections.
According to the group, which spoke under the auspices of Nkanu Media Professionals (NMP), the attack was unwarranted, wicked and demonic.
Recall that gunmen attacked some communities in Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area, in which eight persons were killed and seven vehicles burnt.
The professionals called on the state government and security agencies to intensity efforts towards finding a lasting solution to such a barbaric attack.
In its statement, Nkanu Media Professionals called on Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to reconsider the ban on tricycle, motorcycle and tipper trucks in Nkanu East, Nkanu West and some communities in Enugu south local government as it will spell doom by creating suffering and hunger in the land.
It further said that the near intractable insecurity challenge plaguing the state at the moment would be reduced if an effective security management system with adequate precautionary measures against spontaneous attacks by unknown gunmen are put in place.
It further called for actions to beef up security by arresting conflicts at their early stages before they escalate to violence.
While lamenting that Nkanuland had become one of the hotbeds of attacks in the state, the group noted that the prevalence of conflicts manifest in political thuggery among other vices.
“We commend His Excellency Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s government for the untiring efforts in making Enugu a home for all. We also call on him to graciously reconsider this ban because it will create more untold hardship on the people”.
“Government should reconsider the ban so that tricycles (keke) riders, okada riders and tipper truck drivers can go about their normal businesses”.
“We urge the government to look inwards and ensure that the police and other sister security agencies do their work more professionally without extortion and bias”.
“We really sympathize with families of those who lost their lives. Nothing can replace human lives and the loss is one too many. May another never happen, Ozoemena. Ndo nu. Dibe nu. May God comfort you all in this time of pain and sorrow.”
