EZE ARO: Abia State Govt suspends Eze Ibom Isii

Following the crises arising from the selection of a new Eze Aro in Arochukwu, Abia State, the state Government has suspended one of the three principal traditional rulers of Arochukwu kingdom, HRH Eze Dr. Kanu Nwa Kanu, the Eze Ibom Isii.

Eze Ibom Isii is one the trident monarchs of Aro, and is the one who performed the crowning ceremony of Prince Godwin Kanu Idei, despite the fact that another candidate office had been duly selected by the royal family.

The incident, which happened on 20th October 2023, created confusion as the royal prince who was crowned was not the one chosen for the overall crown, which is the monarch of the kingdom, the Eze Aro of all Aros across the globe.

On October 19th, Prince Eberechukwu Eni had been selected by the royal kindred of Okennachi, but Prince Godwin Kanu Idei had been quickly crowned the very next day by Eze Ibom Isii.

According to a letter from the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and signed by the Honourable Commisioner, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu (KSC), the suspension of Eze Ibom Isii “for flagrantly flouting the provisions of the code of conduct for Traditional Rulers in Abia State, and the Traditional Rulers and Autonomous Communities Law: via abuse of office, and established cases of flagrant disregard of official directives of Government”.

The letter, made available to Jungle-Journalist.Com was also copied to the Executive Governor of the state, Dr Alex Otti, HRM Eze Linus Mba (Chairman, Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers), and

HRH Eze Solomon Nwaizu

(Chairman. Arochukwu LGA Council of Traditional Rulers).

It also copied Ochu Ikpo Kalu who is the Head of Service

Arochukwu Local Government Area.

The Commisioner has also set up a Disciplinary Committee to further investigate the activities of the Eze, and decide the next steps to be taken.
