Ogilisi Igbo Commends Gov Josh Stein of North Carolina USA for Proclaiming June 14 “Igbo Day”

A prominent Igbo man, Chief Ezeonwuka has commended the North Carolina governor, Josh Stein for declaring June 14 as “Igbo Day” to celebrate cultural legacy and community impact in the state.

It will be recalled that the Governor had proclaimed June 14, 2025, as “Igbo Day” to honour the vibrant Igbo community. Recognised for their cultural preservation, civic engagement, and economic contributions, the Igbos have enriched the state through volunteerism, professional excellence, and festivals promoting their Nigerian heritage across generations and communities.

Appreciating the development, Ezeonwuka who is also known as Ogilisi Igbo stated that by giving recognition to the Igbo community in North Carolina, United States, Mr Stein has honored millions of Igbo people, including those at home back in Nigeria, and other Igbos scattered all over the globe who are busy playing their own little roles to ensure that the world is a better place.

His words “Governor Josh Stein has shown that America as a country and as a people do not pretend when it comes to recognizing potentials and hard work.

He also said “By picking out the Igbo people of the state of North Carolina, the governor has demonstrated a clear appreciation of an understanding of the caliber of people Igbos are and the fact that they are making impacts in the economic, educational, social, cultural and humanitarian areas of life among the American people of North Carolina. We the Igbo people deeply appreciate this recognition and will work even more to show that we do not take it for granted.

“Thank you, Mr Governor for letting the light of our people shine from your state to the world. This is an honour to our history, heritage, ancestry and our overall legacies as a people”, Ogilisi Igbo stated.

He also used the opportunity to advise Igbos all over the world to learn to love themselves, unite and work together as one people to achieve their common goals ” I am using this chance to call on my people, Ndi Igbo all over the world to see what unity and love has brought us in North Carolina. It’s a lesson for us all to  unite ourselves and prove that we can live in love and attract trust to ourselves”, he concluded.
