First Nigeria female University VC, Grace Alele-Williams dies @ 89

The first ever female university Vice Chancellor in Nigeria, Professor Grace Allele-Wiliams is dead, she was aged 89.

Prof. Alele-Williams was celebrated as a role model when she was appointed VC of University of Benin.                                                          

Allele-Williams was born 1932 in Warri, Delta State. She attended Queen’s College, Lagos and the University College, Ibadan (now University of Ibadan).

She obtained a Master’s degree in Mathematics while teaching at Queen’s School, Ede in Osun State in 1957. She also obtained her PhD degree in Mathematics education from the University of Chicago in 1963.

In the 70’s, her book, Modern Mathematics was adopted for primary school pupils in Lagos State.
