FLOODING: Governor Soludo Distributes Relief Materials To Displaced Persons In Anambra

As part of measures to cushion the effects of flood disaster ravaging communities in Anambra State, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has sent food items to the affected persons in Awka North local government area.

The relief materials were delivered through the local government transition committee chairman, Mr Emmanuel Ucheze.

Awka North local government has three holding centers situated at Agueke primary school, Ugbenu, housing over 150 displaced persons, Central School Ugbene which has over 250 persons and Central School Awba-ofemili with over 500 displaced persons.

The items include two live cows to each camp, bags of rice, beans, tubers of yam, bags of garri, onion, gallons of red and groundnut oil, among others.

The most affected community Awba-ofemili can only be accessed through boat, hence the Chairman, his entourage and food items got to Awba-ofemili using canoe.

Addressing the displaced persons at various camps, Governor Soludo through the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local government area, Mr Ucheze said that the state is concerned about their condition and will do everything possible to reduce the effect on them.

He encouraged them to remain strong and called on good spirited individuals to also support the displaced persons.

Mr Ucheze inspected the level of damage caused by the flood and assured to report back for strategic and timely interventions.

An Awka North stakeholder, Chief Lawrence Onwuzuka and APGA Candidate for Awka North constituency for Anambra State House of Assembly in the forthcoming general election, Chief Chimezie Ikwunne who were part of the visit harped on the need for federal government to proffer a lasting solution to the flood disaster in order to prevent future occurrence.

While regretting the lives, property and farmlands lost, they commended Governor Soludo for being proactive in responding to the ugly situation.

In their vote of thanks, the President General of Ugbenu community, Mr Samson Ojoh and Igwe Samsung Chimakwa of Ugbene thanked Governor Soludo for his visit and called for more interventions especially in the area of health.
