Former Abia PDP guber candidate, Ikonne for burial April 28

Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, Professor Uche Ikonne will be buried on April 28, 2023.

A statement by the burial committee of the former candidate said a commendation service and singsong will be held in his honour by his church on April 24.

The committee stated that there would be a colloquium and day of tributes for him on 25th April while a valedictory/Senate session would be held for him by his former place of work, Abia State University, Uturu.

According to the committee, Prof Ikonne would be buried on April 28 after a church service at his hometown, Agburuke Nsulu in Isiala Ngwa North LGA.

He completed his tenure as Vice chancellor of Abia State University, ABSU, before joining politics and then emerging as the governorship candidate of the PDP.

He collapsed on November 24, 2022, at Umuahia township stadium while reading his acceptance speech at the mega rally of PDP.

This happened while members of G-5 of PDP were in attendance during the Umuahia rally.

He was rushed to a hospital for medical attention but died at National Hospital Abuja, in January.

A section of PDP faithful in Abia have blamed the thumping defeat the party suffered in guber and National Assembly elections to his death.
