Former BEDC MD, Funke Osibodu, arrested, granted administrative bail

Contrary to media reports, the former Managing Director of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Mrs. Funke Osibodu has been arrested by the police in Benin, Edo State but was granted administrative bail which she is to report at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Abuja tomorrow (Thursday) for further questioning.

It would be recalled that the former BEDC Managing Director was picked up by a crack team from Office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Monday morning following a petition against her for alleged criminal intimidation and threat to life of the new Managing Director of BEDC, Dr. Henry Ajagbawa.

On receipt of the petition, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Alkali Baba Usman, quickly ordered the immediate withdraw of all policemen attached to her before obtaining a search warrant and warrant of arrest from a court of competent jurisdiction to affect her arrest.

Mrs. Osibodu was immediately taken in by the police but was   released on administrative bail after she wrote her statement.

Following the withdrawal of policemen attached to her and the Electricity Utility Company earlier, she immediately procured the services of hoodlums to protect her.

She  initially resisted arrest  when the police came for her but the police overpowered them and arrested five of the hoodlums who were taken to the  State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Benin while the  others escaped through  the fence.
