By Benedict Chinedum Okoro

Fr. John Okwoeze Odey is a Catholic priest of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki. Currently, he the parish priest of Holy Trinity Umuoguduakpu Ngbo in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State.

In addition to his pastoral duties, John Odey runs Holy Trinity College at Umuoguduakpu Ngbo. The school is one of the most productive, effective, efficient and affordable institution; with focus on raising better human beings for this society.

Fr. John holds a Doctorate in Moral Theology. He is strong believer in Liberation Theology.

When John Odey returned from further studies, he was posted to St. Patrick’s Parish Kpirikpiri Abakaliki in Ebonyi State.

As a lad, I had utmost devotion and passion to become a priest, working closely with John Odey as my parish priest endeared him to me.

Odey is an emblem of commitment to his calling, a voice to the voiceless, a believer in Liberation Theology and the Church’s Social Mission of the Gospel Message.

Odey’s philosophy helped shape my understanding of freedom, the mission of the Church and the message of Christ.

Nothing is happening in Nigeria today that John Odey didn’t predict; I mean with accuracy and no ambiguity.

Reading today’s headlines, reminded me of one of his books;

Africa: The Agony of a Continent – Can Liberation Theology Offer Any Solution?

To understand Nigeria, read Odey’s work. I will be publishing his works in the coming days.
