The Igbo community in the United States has strongly condemned what it describes as a fresh attempt to throw the Southeast into another season of confusion and bloodshed, following recent online messages by Mrs. Ngozi Orabueze, who claims to have succeeded the detained agitator Simon Ekpa.
In her latest broadcast, Orabueze called for a total sit-at-home across Anambra State on November 8, 2025, the day of the governorship election, while also demanding thousands of dollars in donations to fund what she described as a “Biafra liberation movement.” The diaspora community called her actions reckless, exploitative, and deeply insensitive to the suffering of ordinary Ndi Igbo.
According to their statement, Orabueze’s call is not an isolated act but a painful continuation of a long, twisting road that has drained the Southeast of peace and progress.
“From the days when Ralph Uwazurike began the modern Biafra struggles till this very moment, Ala Igbo has moved from trouble to trouble — from hope to heartbreak,” the statement read.
“What began as a cry for justice has been hijacked by voices of deceit and violence, who hide abroad while the blood of their brothers runs in the streets.”
The group recalled how the early calls for self-determination once stirred genuine hope — a vision of dignity and equality for Ndi Igbo within a fairer Nigeria. But over the years, that hope, they said, was corrupted by greed, manipulation, and lawlessness, leaving behind a trail of grief.
“We have seen our young men killed, our traders ruined, and our communities abandoned to fear,” they lamented. “The very struggle that began with songs of freedom has become an industry of tears.”
They further warned that figures like Orabueze have no moral or political legitimacy to speak for the Igbo people, describing her online activities as “a dangerous theatre of delusion played at the expense of innocent lives.”
To the best of their knowledge, the group revealed that Ngozi Orabueze has a documented history of mental health challenges, which contributed to her separation from her husband due to concerns about her capacity for responsible conduct.
“As Ndi Igbo in the United States who are well-acquainted with her activities, we feel compelled to caution our brothers and sisters in the South East,” the statement continued.
“Anyone who associates with her or follows her directives—especially those that incite unrest or violence—is likely acting under the influence of someone whose judgment may be impaired.”
The statement reminded Ndi Igbo that Simon Ekpa, whom Orabueze claims to succeed, has already been convicted in Finland for terrorism-related offenses, noting that anyone continuing his agenda should be seen as “a dealer in chaos, not a deliverer.”
Calling on the people of Anambra and the wider Southeast to reject every call for sit-at-home, the community urged them to come out and vote peacefully, saying that democracy, not violence, remains the true instrument of liberation.
They also appealed to the Federal Government of Nigeria and international security agencies to investigate and prosecute individuals who use digital platforms to incite unrest or collect fraudulent “donations” in the name of freedom.
“Ala Igbo must heal,” the group declared. “No people can build a future while held hostage by fear. We must silence the voices that feed on our pain and choose peace, unity, and wisdom over destruction.”
They concluded by reaffirming their commitment to a peaceful, progressive Southeast, rooted in dialogue, justice, and respect for human life.
“The dream of a better tomorrow will not come through bullets or broadcasts,” they wrote. “It will come through rebuilding trust among ourselves. Enough of this madness. Let peace return to our land.”
