“I have the singular honor as the returning officer of the 2024 presidential election to declare his Excellency John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential election and the president-elect of the Republic of Ghana with a total percentage of 56.55%,” Electoral Commission Chairwoman Jean Mensa told a briefing.
The presidential and general elections in Ghana took place on December 7.
As many as 12 candidates ran for Ghana’s top job, with the leaders of the two rival parties, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahama and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, respectively, being the main contenders. Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP is not eligible to run in the race as he is currently serving his second final term.
Bawumia admitted his electoral defeat and congratulated Mahama on his victory, the GhanaWeb news portal reported.
