Gregory Varsity Bags the 2021 Outstanding Entrepreneurial University of the Year


Gregory University Uturu, Abia State has been named the Outstanding Entrepreneurial University of the year 2021.

The University was announced as the winner at the 2nd annual “African Medal of Honour Awards” by Time Africa Magazine, held on November 1st 2021 at the Nigeria National Merit Awards House Abuja – Nigeria.

Gregory University was recognised for exceptional teaching, research, student support, entrepreneurship, collaborations and outreach.

Gregory University’s winning entry focused on its decisive response to give every student entrepreneurial skills before and upon graduation.


The judges hailed Gregory University as a “hugely deserving” winner. “at a time when universities are too often on the back foot in public debates about value and relevance entrepreneuship, Gregory University stood out as a shining example of what a university should be: institutions of courage and action, uniquely placed to tackle the biggest issues facing Africa.”

The awarding media organisation, Time Africa Magazine, said that “the brilliance on display by the University, from the length and breadth of the country, is a reminder of the role that universities must, and will, play in guiding the way through excellent education in Africa.

Receiving the Award, Prof Magnus Onuoha on behalf of the Founder and Chancellor of the University, Prof Greg Ibeh OFR, said, “It is a great honour to receive the award for Outstanding Entrepreneurial University. This award is an important recognition of the dedication of our hard working staff in supporting entrepreneurial students.

“The award also highlights the role that the University playing in supporting our economy. We are incredibly proud to be able to support so many undergraduates and graduates to startup new businesss and SMEs in our Africa.

The judges praised the University “excellent inclusive approach to enterprise and entrepreneurship”, saying it had “demonstrated a strategic approach with students at the heart”.

Meanwhile, Gregory University’s Entrepreneurship Centre is delivering practical entrepreneurship to students with its most successful year to date.

Thanks to cutting-edge research, first-class teaching and effective partnerships, the centre’s programmes have supported more than 5,000 students to become entrepreneurs; created 6000 jobs to the entrepreneur coaches.
