A frontline contestant for the Enugu State House of Assembly elections, Micheal Emmanuel Onu has been playing a pivotal role in providing educational palliatives for students, as well as pupils in primary schools.

The candidate, who is contesting for the Nkanu-East seat under the Young Progressive Party (YPP), while speaking with Jungle Journalist Media Limited, gave insight to efforts he has made in his home community of Mburubu.

Candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) for Nkanu East State Constituency in the forthcoming Enugu State House of Assembly elections, Micheal Emmanuel Onu.

Under the auspices of Meek Foundation, Honourable Onu has been offering bursary awards to undergraduate students, and helping the elders pay school fees for their wards.

The Foundation has also been paying for the West African School Certificate Examination Council Examination (WASSCE) and National Examination Council (NECO) fees for secondary school in Mburubu.

According to information made available to the media, this gesture started in 2018, and they distributed critical school materials (notebooks, pencils, chalks, and so on.) to different schools in Nkanu East Local Government Area such as Mburubu, Nomeh, and Nara.

Late 2021, Meek Foundation distributed approximately 100 leather sandals to students, fixed the roof of the decrepit Health Center, and repaired the floor of Primary School in Mburubu.

According to Onu, while responding to questions, “I am not rich but as someone who has seen the bad, the ugly, and the good in life, and has the opportunities to travel around four continents, I believe building human capital is quintessential to developing a prosperous and sustainable development that enhances community growth. Thus, Meek Foundation is not a political tool because it believes it will become an avenue to foster partisan politics and enhance an undue influence, which may be inimical to achieve its core aims and objectives”.

“To this end, Meek Foundation is committed to increasing the bursary opportunities to students across Nkanu East Local Government Area”, he stated, hinting that more educational palliatives are on the way for more students across the local government.
