JUST IN: Bayelsa residents on rampage, loot subsidy palliatives from warehouse in Yenagoa

Residents of Yenegoa, Bayelsa State have reportedly forced their way into a warehouse to loot palliatives which were supposed to be distributed to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

The warehouse located along Isaac Boro Expressway in the state capital was invaded on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

The looting occurred amid widespread anger over the removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria. The subsidy removal has led to a sharp increase in the price of petrol, which has in turn pushed up the prices of goods and services.

Jungle-Journalist.Com could not confirm if the warehouse looted contained provisions and food items distributed to states as promised by President Bola Tinubu‘s administration to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

There are however, reports that the palliatives looted were meant to be distributed to people affected by flood in the state.

The state government is yet to comment on the incident as at press time.
