Lawmaker Laments Water Scarcity In Abia Community

The lawmaker representing Ohafia South constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Kalu Mba Nwoke has lamented the perennial scarcity of water in Asaga Ohafia and called on the state government to come to the rescue of the community.

Nwoke also requested the inauguration and handing over of a multi-million naira civic centre built by Bianko Age Grade as their traditional retirement project to the community in Ohafia local government area.

He regretted that past individual, group, and collective efforts to address the challenge, which he said was worsening annually proved abortive due to the huge financial involvement in providing water to the community.

“Today, our joy is that we are appealing to a humane administration led by Dr. Alex Otti and we are hopeful that in no distant time, this challenge among others confronting the community will end.

“On my part, I will continue to add value to the communities in particular and offer quality representation to the constituency in general,” the chairman of the House committee on environment and urban renewal added.

Earlier in his address, the Ezeogo in the council of the community, his highness Oba Uka, commended the age grade for completing the project within record time.

While noting that most of the public infrastructures in the community were provided by age grades, Uka appealed to the local, state, and federal governments to factor in the community in their development agenda.

According to the leader of the age grade, Chief Sam Ukwueni, the event marked the beginning of the final stages of their traditional retirement and extolled the members for their commitment to the completion of the project.

In his remarks, the national president of the age grade, Chidi Uma Obasi, noted with gratitude to God and the members that the project was completed “even in the face of high inflation rate in the country”.
