The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is under intense scrutiny after 157 political associations accused the Commission of bad faith for failing to communicate the reasons for rejecting their applications for registration.
According to information available to Jungle-Journalist.Com, the Forum of Associations Seeking Registration as Political Parties (FASRAPP), led by its Chairman, Chief Barr. John Nwobodo, visited INEC headquarters in Abuja yesterday expecting to receive official letters detailing why their applications were disapproved.
Shockingly, INEC admitted that the letters had not even been written. Officials merely appealed for patience, promising that the associations would be invited later to collect them once ready.
The Forum described INEC’s conduct as “nonchalant, lackadaisical and untrustworthy,” noting that last Thursday, the Commission had publicly pledged to issue official communication within 24 hours of announcing the rejections. That 24-hour window expired on Friday, yet as of yesterday — more than 120 hours later — not a single letter had been delivered.
FASRAPP further criticized INEC for failing to disclose the reasons alongside the press release announcing the rejections, leaving associations in limbo and fueling doubts about the Commission’s transparency.
In response, the Forum has issued a firm ultimatum, demanding that INEC communicate the reasons for the rejection of all 157 associations not later than Thursday, September 18, 2025, or face immediate legal action.
For now, INEC stands accused of keeping 157 political associations in the dark, with its credibility and trustworthiness on the line.
