Rotimi Amaechi, the former minister of transportation, has publicly acknowledged that Nigerian leaders are only interested in gaining power and do not care about the people.
“No Nigerian leader cares for you,” he said. And you won’t do anything, which is why no Nigerian leader is interested in you.
Amaechi went on to discuss how politicians work behind closed doors. “It’s an elite conspiracy.” As we sit here, we consider the best course of action to seize power. You are not important to us.
He claimed that because leaders do nothing in response to abuse, the public has tolerated their behavior.

Amaechi also attacked voters who cast ballots based on their tribe and religion. “Some of us who are here bringing up capacity issues are also the ones who vote based on race and religion or who favor poor, uneducated, and defenseless people over others based on their race and religion. We are here for that reason.
He claimed that this mindset has added to the shame and backwardness of the nation. Amaechi used a personal story from Germany to illustrate how Nigeria’s reputation has deteriorated.
In Germany, my passport was confiscated. I took no action. My offense was that I’m handing a green passport. They kept me for nearly 30 minutes… just because I’m carrying a green passport. Therefore, I am ashamed if you are not.
