OPINION: The political darkness of nominating an APC faithful as INEC Federal Commissioner

In the interest of justice and fairness, it would be a dark moment for our nascent democracy for Mr. President to appoint a card carrying member of All Progressive Congress( APC) as INEC Commissioner.

It is not only a stooge on our democracy but a serious harm to the spirit of transparency, equity and justice. This plan to appoint a Bayelsa State APC faithful as INEC Commissioner depicts coordinated plans by APC under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari to rig 2023 general elections.

Where in any liberal democracy would a member of a ruling political party be appointed as an officier of the nation’s electoral body? It then means that 2023 is not feasible and in the worst renegade on the popular will of the people by working to bastardize their votes.

Global Initiatives For Good Governance under the mastership of Chief Emeka Kalu condemns this move with a strong voice and call on the Nigerian Senate and concerned citizens to rise and resist it. We cannot afford to sacrifice our democracy on the altar of selfishness and high handedness.

The same vigour with which the appointment of Mrs Lawretta Onochie was resisted should be applied in this very advances even more stiffly to save our democracy from sleeping on the nerves of blackmail, distortion and lopsidedness. Allowing this incorrectness means enabling our electoral system to fall inside a dark deep valley that would never be rescued.

Nigerians are tired of electoral mishaps and it is time for greater improvements on our system.Nigerians should rise and resist this continued plans to subject us to untold hardship that is cropping to derail our political system. The people of this great nation had suffered enough in the hands of corruption which contributed to the high rate of crimes in the land.

Where the electoral system is endangered and polluted with actions capable of stragulating our democracy, how would one expect national development and economic progress.

It is costly to have this darkness imposed on the people by Mr President appionting his party loyalist as INEC Federal Commissioner, thereby perfecting plans to have wider upper hands and rigging ahead of 2023. We call for a national voice to get this anornaly resisted and free us from the shackles of crumbled, compromised and unprogressive system.
