Pro-Biafra Political Group Says PEPT Judgement A Rape Of Democracy, Calls For Calm

Foremost pro-Biafran political organization, De Biafra Mobilizers Initiative (DBMI) has described the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal judgment of 6th September as a rape of democracy, and complete robbery of the judiciary.

DBMI in a Press Statement issued after it’s emergency meeting in Owerri, Imo State capital on Thursday also expressed disbelief and shock at the outcome of the judgment.

The statement, signed by the group’s Director General, Comrade Rita Eberechukwu Anigbogu, said that despite fact that Nigeria’s democracy has been passing through very difficult times, it is unimaginable that Nigerians are still being subjected not only to political fraud, but also, fraud in the judiciary.

She however, pleaded with Nigerians all over the world to stay calm and tow the path of peace, enjoining them to refrain from the temptation of chaos and destruction. DBMI in the statement, also warned the judiciary, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, as well as the Federal government that if the right steps are not urgently taken to save democracy, Nigeria may well be on its way to its end.

Parts of the statement reads “DBMI watched in disbelief yesterday Wednesday the 6th day of September as the supposed last hope of the common man, judiciary rubbed pepper and salt into the injuries inflicted upon Nigerians by the INEC, by turning a clear judgment to stand on its head.

“We lamented that INEC declared a fraudulent result, but this is the height of it. As a political organization of Indigenous Biafrans, we have elected to chart the path of Biafrans to Nationhood through political participation.

However, seeing the outcome of the Nigerian political process, we feel pained that politicians and the judiciary are making it increasingly difficult for the citizens to stay peaceful and trust the electoral process. It is a shame that established institutions that swore to defend the nation’s integrity are the ones destroying the Democratic Process, and the political option to good life, prosperity and happiness among our people.

“We are however calling for calm, and we plead for peace. Our people must restrain from violence in the face of this provocation from those who should be protecting the very ideals they have raped.

“We at DBMI will continue to educate and enlighten our people on the importance of political participation. Through our efforts over the years, we have been able to prove that we can take back this country and define democracy in its finest sense. We must not give up. We must never give up. We the people must continue to march forward until we get it right. Everyone, wake up and join our movement to bring the needed freedom!”, the statement concluded.
