S’south PDP stakeholders demand presidency be zoned to South

Demands for governing board, auditing of NDDC, asks NNPC to extend projects to S’south

Stakeholders of the South-south geopolitical zone have asked the national secretariat of the party to cede the President slot to Southern Nigeria. 

This is in agreement with an earlier demand made by PDP  Southern Governors Forum that the next president be from South.

The stakeholders also listed a number of benefits it desires  the Federal Government to accord the zone, which it said they deserve in their numerous contributions to national development, and in the spirit of equity and fairness.

The demands were made at a one day summit of the party, held at Ibom Resort Hotel, Uyo, in Akwa Ibom State.

In a communique delivered at the end of the summit, it listed as follows:

“The zone is committed to the enthronement of the federalism in all ramification, both in principle and practice.

“The zone is worried on the prevalent state of insecurity across the country and calls for more concerted effort in enhancing the operational capacity of security agencies. To this end, the zone reiterates its demand for the creation of state police.

“The zone frowns at the continuous unlawful violation of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Act by the use of sole administrator in the management and running of the affaire the Commission, and calls on the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately constitute the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in line with the enabling law.

“The zone demands that the forensic audit report of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) be made public and implemented fully without further delay.

“The zone is in full support of the position of the Southern states Governors Forum that the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria must come from the south.

“The zone commends the PDP governors of the South South for putting the zone in world map as hubs of development through various development projects initiated and commissioned regularly.

“The calls on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to recognize the enormous contribution of the zone to the Nation’s Wealth and extend infrastructural projects to the zone as being carried out and implemented in other zones of the country.

“The zone is concerned about the none existence of Federal Government Infrastructural Projects in the zone despite its huge contribution to the Nation’s Economy, and calls on the Federal Government to immediately carry out developmental projects in the zone beginning with the urgent and immediate completion of the East West Road.

“The zone commends the Government of Akwa Ibom State under the leadership of Governor Emmanuel Udom for hosting the submit and making it a memorable event”.

In attendance at the Summit include its host, Governor Udom Emmanuel, his Rivers State counterpart Nyesom Wike, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, and Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State.

Also in attendance were top stakeholders of the party in the zone, including the South south executive members, past governors, Senators, House of Representatives members, and other party officials.
