Suspected kidnappers, land grabbers arrested by Edo State Police

The Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to kidnapping and land grabbing in Benin, the state capital.

In a statement by the Deputy Spokesperson of the Command, Jennifer Iwegbu, on Wednesday, the suspects have given useful statements and would soon be charged to court.

The statement read, “In furtherance of the determination of Edo State Command to take the battle to the den of criminals in the State, operatives of the Command on 11/10/2022 at about 22:10hrs arrested Messrs Amos Abieyuwa ‘M’ 28 years and Ochuko Newman ‘M’ 24years at their hideout in Ulegun Community of Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

“They have been on the Command’s wanted list over alleged cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, arson, murder, gun-running, land grabbing, promoting communal war and recruiting armed men to wage war against the Edo State Government at Oke-Oroma, Obazagbon and Obagie communities of the state, where they played the arrowhead role/ mastermind roles.

“One of the suspects, Ochuko Newman while making his statement, confessed that he and Abieyuwa are the arrowheads of land grabbing, marine kidnapping, gun-running, armed robbery, arson, cultism among other criminal activities. He further confessed that Abieyuwa is in possession and control of two AK-47 rifles as part of the guns they use in their operations. Abieyuwa in his statement affirmed the confessional statement of Newman.”
