Upset in Abia Labour Party over Gov Otti’s Commissioners’ list

Some stakeholders of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State are bickering over appointments so far made by Governor Alex Otti, saying it does not reflect the wishes of the generality of the critical stakeholders of the party in the state.

The party chieftains who spoke under the cover of anonymity to Daily Sun said it was wrong for Otti to base his appointments on his cronies and those he came into politics with from the banking sector, at the detriment of tested politicians in the party.

They berated the governor over the list of Commissioner nominees he submitted to the State House of Assembly members for screening and confirmation, claiming that most of the names on the 19-man commissioner nominees list were not known to the party.

“Some names that came from critical stakeholders in the state who played important roles in the emergence of Otti as the governor of the state were not among the names of people before the State House of Assembly awaiting their confirmation and those occupying various political positions in the present government”.

The LP stakeholders accused Otti of appointing key members of cabinet including his chief of staff, SSG, and Special Advisers without the input of the state party’s leadership.

“The governor has even fallen apart with some elected national assembly members after they felt they were not being carried along in the scheme of things”.

The stakeholders cautioned Otti against taking decisions that would jeopardize the favour the party curried from Abians which culminated in the victory of the party in the state in the last election.
