Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has asked Nigerians to stop attacking former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his choice of 2023 presidential candidate.

Recall that Obasanjo on Sunday endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a letter, he personally signed, Obasanjo, the former Governor of Anambra State as “a needle with thread attached to it from North and South and he may not get lost”.

Obasanjo urged Nigerians, especially youths, to consider the decision they will be making at the polls within the next two months.

The 2023 general elections will commence on February 25, with the presidential while other federal elections, including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, will also be held on the same date.

State elections would follow two weeks afterwards.

However, following Obasanjo’s declaration on Sunday, some Nigerians, mostly politicians, have been coming hard at the former president, saying that his endorsement of the Labour Party presidential candidate is worth nothing.

Also, staunch supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have been expressing anger over Obasanjo’s public endorsement.

Reacting to the series of criticism on the former president, Senator Sani, via his verified Twitter handle said there was no need to criticize the former leader over his choice.

According to the former lawmaker, Obasanjo is entitled to his own opinion, stressing that he should not be attacked for his choice.

He asked politicians who could not get endorsed by Obasanjo to seek the same from the likes of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Yakubu Gowon and other former leaders.

Senator Sani wrote, “Obasanjo has made his choice. He is entitled to his opinion. He should not be attacked.

“Those who can’t get his endorsement should seek that of Gowon, IBB or Abdulsallam, they are equally credible former military and political leaders. Ordinary President of Berekete is also available”.
