Ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general elections, some frontline support groups in Enugu State have vowed to shut down the state capital by rallying millions of eligible voters for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidates across the state, especially the governorship candidate of the party, Dr. Peter Mbah.

The famous pro-PDP support groups led by a former ranking lawmaker in the state and Director, PDP Support Groups for Peter Mbah, Rt. Hon. USA Igwesi, said the two-million-man march became necessary in order to reaffirm the wide acceptance and topnotch rating of the party and the excellent outing of the governorship hopeful in the just concluded town-hall meetings held across the 68 development centres in the state.

While expressing optimism that the ruling party has no close rival in the state as a result of the massive infrastructure, uncommon development, giant strides and unequalled leadership it has brought within the past 23 years, Hon. Igwesi insisted that the people of the state were not only comfortable with continuity of governance but also at home with the party.

According to him, the party produced a set of candidates that could be described as unexampled, sterling and top-level when compared with other parties and what they were able to churn out to the people, noting that the state was lucky to have Barr. Mbah who came from a private sector with superlative wealth of experience that will hasten industrial revolution, create millions of jobs, engage the youths, change the narrative and inspire a modern state through his innovative ability.

He said the mega rally, tagged “Occupy Enugu for Peter Mbah” will serve as a strong message to the opposition parties to stop wasting their time and resources on failed political ventures as they would not even win their polling units, saying PDP will clinch all the votes because of its popularity and dividends of good governance.

Meanwhile, some of the coordinators and leaders of different support groups that spoke to our correspondent said they were ready to storm the state capital on the scheduled date, adding that their members had already indicated interest to be part of the epoch-making movement, and would be at Okpara Square to show solidarity.

On the streets of Enugu, various youth groups have announced that they’d be joining the historical march because of their firm faith in what Barr. Mbah can do if he wins the gubernatorial election.

“We have gone through Barr. Peter Mbah’s manifesto, and that has reassured us that there’s hope for the youths. Our future is guaranteed. Our tomorrow is already here. His manifesto captured our keen interest and we want to be part of the success story. We will equally be there because of Rt. Hon. USA Igwesi who is leading the movement. He has always proven his capacity to deliver,” the youths further maintained.

The march which is expected to galvanize party supporters, stakeholders, members of the business community, eligible students, market women and other interest groups is slated to hold at the Michael Okpara Square on Saturday, February 11, 2023, and will see groups adorned in their colourful uniforms.

The ruling party’s governorship flagbearer and other party chieftains and stakeholders are also expected to grace the flowery occasion where they’ll address the crowds.
