Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has disclosed that he is targeting 24 months completion of the newly flagged off Abia Airport project in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of the state, despite a 36-month completion contractual agreement with the contractor.

Otti disclosed this on Sunday, December 22, during a church service at Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, Kilometre 3, Opobo Road, Ovom 1, Ogbor Hill, Aba.

He said, “A few days ago, we flagged off the Abia International Airport. We gave the contractor 36 months to complete, it but I have extracted a commitment that in 24 months, the airport will be ready for us to use.”

Recall that on Tuesday,  December 17, Otti, alongside Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barr. Festus Keyamo,  performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Abia Airport, Nsulu.

The Federal Government had initially proposed and made provision for an airstrip in the 2024 budget but consented to the Abia State government’s request to make it a full-fledged airport. The Airport project is being handled by Craneburg Construction Company.

Otti, who, in his usual way of attending churches unannounced, attended the church service with his amiable wife, Priscilla, who was marking her birthday the same day.

He said that he just came to worship and to thank the church for its support before, during, and after the election.

The governor said that despite the joy and applause over the achievements of his administration across the state in the last 18 months, the people “ain’t seen anything yet.”

He said that it was “still early morning,” adding that greater things were coming, amidst loud thunderous ovation from the joyous congregation.

The presiding pastor, Pastor Wilson Inyang, offered special prayers for the governor, his entourage and the state.

The pastor also offered special birthday prayers for the First Lady of the state.

The worship service attracted some top government functionaries like the Chief of Staff to the governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, the member representing Aba Central state constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ucheonye Stephen, the Mayors of Obingwa, Aba North and Aba South local government areas, commissioners and some top aides to the governor among others.
