As Arochukwu ancient kingdom enters its annual, historic new yam festival, better known as Ikeji Aro-Okeigbo, Jungle-Journalist.Com gives a peek of what tourists and guests should expect to experience at the festival.

🔥 Countdown to Ekekpe: The Pulse of Arochukwu Quickens
With just six days to go, the heartbeat of Arochukwu grows louder. Villages are alive with rehearsals, costume fittings, and spiritual preparations as the town braces for Ekekpe Day on September 26, 2025. Amaikpe Square in Obinkita will host the crescendo of this cultural symphony, where tradition meets theatrical brilliance.

🎭 Masquerades Take the Stage Early
Even before the official kickoff, masquerades have begun their dramatic appearances across villages, drawing throngs of excited youths and cultural devotees. Their dances, chants, and costumes are flooding social media, with diaspora communities like Mbiabong sharing clips that amplify the festival’s reach far beyond Nigeria’s borders.

🕊️ Sacred Rituals: Honoring the Ancestors
Day Six of the countdown is steeped in spiritual reflection. Last year’s libation ceremony remains etched in memory—a solemn rite led by Mazi Okoroafor Uror, Mazi Amos Ngwu Egbu Okoro, Sir Dozie Udensi, and Okey Imuoh. Together, they invoked ancestral blessings and offered prayers of gratitude, reinforcing the spiritual backbone of Ikeji.

🤝 Government Partnership: A New Era for Aro Tourism
This year’s festival marks a turning point. A strategic partnership between Aro leadership and the Abia State Government’s Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy is transforming Ikeji-Aro into a globally recognized heritage event. The goal: meet UNESCO tourism standards and position Arochukwu as a must-visit cultural destination.

👑 Visionary Leadership: Eze Aro’s Cultural Legacy
At the helm of this transformation is His Eminence, Eze Dr. Eberechukwu Oji. In just two years, his reign has sparked a cultural revival, blending ancient traditions with modern aspirations. His vision of a prosperous, globally connected Aro Kingdom is unfolding with every masquerade dance and ancestral prayer.
