A 2023 letter from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has surfaced, contradicting the University’s alleged recent claim that it has no record of the graduation of the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche (Geoffrey) Nnaji.

The official correspondence, dated December 21, 2023, and signed by Dr. (Mrs.) Celine Ngozi Nnebedum, Registrar of the University, appears to confirm that the minister indeed graduated from UNN. The letter, issued on the University’s letterhead and addressed to Samuel Ogundipe of People’s Gazette, stated that Nnaji “was admitted in 1981 to study Microbiology/Biochemistry” and “graduated from the University of Nigeria in July 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology/Biochemistry, Second Class (Honours) Lower Division.”

The document, referenced RUN/SRIRV.1, also contained Nnaji’s registration number 1981/30725—the same number cited in the controversy—and was copied to the Registrar’s Correspondence Unit. It bore the University’s official contact information and website.

This 2023 letter stands in direct conflict with the widely circulated reports this week that claimed the University of Nigeria “had no records” showing the minister’s graduation.

Observers say the emergence of the earlier letter suggests possible internal miscommunication or administrative inconsistencies within UNN’s registry department.

As of press time, Jungle-Journalist.com was still making efforts to obtain a formal clarification from the University’s Registrar’s office regarding the existence of the two conflicting communications. The Minister has yet to make a public comment on the development.

The controversy, which began after reports alleged that Nnaji’s UNN degree certificate might have been forged, has sparked widespread debate across the country. Analysts are urging that both letters be subjected to independent verification before any conclusions are drawn.

Editor’s Note: Jungle-Journalist.com remains committed to factual accuracy and balanced reporting. This report will be updated as soon as official responses from the University of Nigeria or the Minister’s office become available.
