
Oba community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State was agog yesterday, following the emergence of Engr Sir Augustine Chinedu Emelobe as the Igwe and Eze Okpoko II.
Emelobe emerged, following another Igweship election which held earlier in the day.
Recall that he had won the election in December 21, 2024, but dissenting voices prevailed on the community, leading to the second election, where he was again overwhelmingly elected by the people of Oba.

The new monarch was elected by delegates in line with the tradition and constitution of the community and Anambra State.
He was promptly issued a certificate of return, following his victory.
Addressing the elated Oba indigenes after his installation, Igwe Emelobe pledged to lead and serve the people without fear or favour and to discharge his duties selflessly.

In their separate remarks, the Permanent Secretary to Anambra State Government, Hon. Dr. Nwabufo Nwankwo(Dikeora), APGA Chieftain, Hon. Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu(Onyechimel’eze), and Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi(Iyom Ife-Abata) congratulated the new king and residents of Oba for the peaceful election.

They tasked the people to support the new king for the peace and progress of the community, Idemili South and Anambra State in general.
Others in attendance were the PG of Oba, Engr. Uzo Ejiofor (Ezeugonna) Onowu Oba, Chief BM Onyeka (Okom), State APGA Assistant Treasurer, Hon. Uche Maduekwe, and many others.

Others who spoke at the event expressed their joy and believe Oba will enjoy peace and progress under her new Monarch whom they described as a visionary leader.
