Enugu, Nigeria — The Enugu State Council of Presidents-General has thrown its full support behind Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the decision as a strategic move that restored Enugu’s voice in national politics.
Mbah had defected to the All Progressives Congress APC last week, in a historic move reported by Jungle-Journalist.Com.
The endorsement was made on Thursday in Enugu during a capacity-building workshop organized for Presidents-General across the state. The training was designed to enhance local leadership and improve service delivery at the grassroots level.
‘Mbah Has Repositioned Enugu State’
Speaking at the event, the Council’s President, Hon. Arinze Ogbodo, hailed the governor for his transformational leadership and commitment to equitable development across all 260 wards of the state.
Ogbodo said the Council’s endorsement was unanimous, reflecting the people’s collective aspiration to align Enugu with the nation’s power center.
“What Governor Mbah did was a collective decision of the people,” he said. “Enugu has regained its voice in national politics, and our people are already feeling the positive impact of belonging to the ruling party at the federal level.”
He cited the Smart Green Schools, Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, rural electrification, and ongoing infrastructure expansion as proof of the governor’s performance-driven approach, two key focus areas of the governor, as is reported by ThisDay.
The Council’s president further urged the state government to review the welfare packages for community leaders to help them function better as development partners.
“Our loyalty to Governor Mbah remains firm. We will sustain peace, support security initiatives, and take ownership of development projects across our towns,” Ogbodo added.
Government Reaffirms Support for Grassroots Leaders
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development, and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Okey Ogbodo, reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering town unions as key partners in development.
He disclosed that the ministry was intensifying its reform drive through a review of the town union constitution, establishment of a Community Coordination Department, and regular leadership training for Presidents-General.
“This workshop reinforces our shared vision to transform every community into a modern, organized development unit aligned with the state’s overall growth plan,” the Commissioner said.
Participants at the workshop commended the initiative, describing it as a timely effort to strengthen community governance and deepen collaboration between the state and its local institutions.
