PDP collapses in the South as Bayelsa, Enugu governors move to APC

ADC rises quietly as new opposition while Tinubu, Wike finish the job of destroying PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, once the self-proclaimed largest party in Africa, is finally gasping for breath.

From every indication, the last two PDP-controlled states in the South — Bayelsa and Enugu — are slipping into the ruling APC. Their governors, Douye Diri and Peter Mbah, are already in advanced talks with the presidency, in what appears to be the final collapse of the once-mighty opposition.

The slow death of a giant

PDP’s fall didn’t happen overnight. Years of greed, betrayal, and arrogance hollowed it out from within.
When Nyesom Wike — one of its loudest voices — turned against his own party, the damage was irreversible. He fought from inside, cut secret deals, and finally helped the APC break PDP’s backbone.

His reward came swiftly: President Bola Tinubu made him Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, a juicy post many now see as the prize for political sabotage.

Since then, PDP has been bleeding members and losing relevance across the country.

Diri and Mbah join the exodus

Sources within both states confirm that Governors Douye Diri and Peter Mbah are preparing to officially defect to APC.
In Enugu, party structures are already being quietly dismantled. In Bayelsa, Diri is said to have struck “federal understandings” that guarantee political safety once he crosses over.

Their departure leaves PDP with no firm foothold in the South-South or South-East — a situation unthinkable just a decade ago.

ADC takes over the opposition space

While PDP continues to quarrel and crumble, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been quietly growing.
The party, once seen as insignificant, is now attracting youths, reformists, and disillusioned PDP faithful who are tired of the old order.

Across Nigeria, ADC is being described as the “new opposition” — cleaner, smaller, but hungrier.

Tinubu’s long game

Analysts say this is all part of President Tinubu’s grand political strategy: weaken every rival from within, absorb their strongest players, and consolidate total control before 2027.

And in that game, Wike played the willing enforcer, tearing his party apart while Tinubu smiled from Aso Rock.

The end of an era

Today, PDP is a shadow of itself — no longer feared, barely respected, and fast becoming history.
Its name still echoes, but the power, the structure, and the soul are gone.

In its place, new movements like ADC are rising — proof that Nigerian politics is changing, whether the old guard likes it or not.
