Ex-Commissioner says ex-lawmaker is chasing clout to stay relevant in Udenu politics

Enugu, Saturday, October 11, 2025 — By Jungle-Journalist.Com

Former Enugu State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Professor Victor Nnam, has taken a swipe at Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, describing the former lawmaker as “a fading political actor desperate to remain relevant.”

Nnam was reacting to reports that a court had granted substituted service against him in a ₦1 billion libel suit filed by Ezeugwu. He dismissed the case as “a cheap publicity stunt to revive a dead political career.”

“Since his political godfather left office, Ezeugwu has been grasping at straws. Using my name is the only way he can appear relevant in public discourse,”
— Prof Nnam told newsmen in a chat on Saturday.

The feud reportedly began after Ezeugwu’s controversial resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), during which he allegedly attacked former governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi — an exit many described as graceless and vindictive.

Prof. Nnam, a known ally of Ugwuanyi, publicly defended the former governor, sparking the defamation suit now making rounds in the media.

Unshaken by the development, Nnam confirmed receipt of the court papers and said the matter had been handed over to his legal team, led by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

“This is not a legal case — it’s a poorly scripted PR stunt. Ezeugwu knows he can’t compete with my record, so he’s trying to drag me down to his level,”
— Nnam stated.

He accused Ezeugwu of using obscure blogs and social media platforms to peddle court documents in a bid to whip up public sympathy.

“He’s publishing court updates like campaign posters. That tells you all you need to know about his motives. It’s the last play of a drowning politician,”
— Nnam added.

The former commissioner also warned the younger generation to be careful who they idolize in politics.

“Not all men in agbada are worthy of emulation. Some are just polished hustlers in politics,”
— he said.

Ezeugwu is demanding ₦1 billion in damages, a public apology and a media retraction — conditions Nnam dismissed as “laughable and politically motivated.”
