The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), in partnership with the Edo State Government, has launched a five-day intensive training program for 50 women in Edo State on converting petrol-powered vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Benin City, the Director General/CEO of NADDC, Olumemimo Joseph Osanipin, represented by Mrs. Joke Onireti, Deputy Director of Industrial Infrastructure, said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s push for cleaner and more affordable transport energy. He emphasized that the program is not only aimed at promoting sustainable fuel alternatives but also empowering women economically and promoting gender inclusion in the automotive sector.
“This training provides both theoretical and practical knowledge, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience in CNG conversion,” he said.
The initiative, supported by the Lady Mechanic Initiative, marks the first all-female CNG conversion training in Nigeria. Its Director, Sandra Aguebor—the country’s first certified female CNG specialist—urged participants to remain focused, noting that successful trainees would be deployed to workshops and encouraged to establish their own.
“This is a great opportunity for women to become pioneers in a cleaner energy future,” Aguebor added.
