Enugu State Police Command has arrested over 90 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists. It rescued 15 victims and recovered arms and ammunition from their hideouts.

Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, who spoke in Abuja after the Inspector General of Police conference, said: “In the last nine months, police went after the criminals and flushed them out of the state. Police also dealt with the IPOB/ESN members terrorising citizens, arrested and charged them to court. We have started raiding their hideouts and they are relocating out of the state.

“Twenty five suspected armed robbers were arrested in Nsukka and along Awka-Enugu Expressway. The Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) arrested 15 suspected kidnappers, who came from neighbouring states to operate. We rescued 10 victims from the kidnappers’ den and recovered millions of naira as ransom.

“The Anti-Cultism Squad (ACS) arrested some suspected members of Eiye, Axe and Greenlander confraternities. They confessed involvement in armed robbery operations. They have been charged to court.

“We want to thank the state government for providing us with operation vehicles to tackle the hoodlums. We appreciate the stakeholders, community leaders, youths for imbibing community policing by giving useful information to flush out the hoodlums.

“IInspector General of Polic, Olukayode Egbetokun, has warned officers to be disciplined, professional and respect the fundamental rights of members of the public. Police officers should properly conduct themselves in the course of their duties.
