An aspirant for the position of Igwe (traditional ruler) for Ishienu Amofu Nkerefi, in Nkanu East Local Government Area, Enugu State, Hon Ogbuefi Sunday Mbah (JP) has commended Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for approving not just one, but two major road projects among the 161 urban and rural road projects to cost a whopping N183 billion across the State.
Mbah, also known as Honourable SMC made his position known in a Press Statement made available to newsmen.
In the written statement, Mbah, whose title is Ezeudo na Nkerefi said the move by Governor Peter Mbah to give Ndi Nkerefi not just one road but two, means he has a special love for the community.
He posited that several other governors have come and gone without any meaningful impact on the community or the people, leading to incremental poverty among the Amofu Nkerefi people.
“But now, our fortunes are about to turn for good. Our brother and governor, Dr Peter Mbah knows what we have suffered and has decided to give us wealth by constructing our roads. Roads attract people, investors, investments, businesses, electricity, viable market, better living conditions and so on. The road is an ‘mmonwu na eti onwe ya’ (a masquerade that takes its own decisions). The gains of roads are massive, unquantifiable. My people, our community is about to witness it’s biggest development in history, and this is courtesy of Dr Peter Mbah “, he stated.
The Statement reads “Our people have complained about lack of attention by various leaders of our state and the Federal Government in the past. It will be very unfair if at this point in our lives, we keep quiet at such a great thing coming to us.
Dr Peter Mbah, our dear brother who is our governor have remembered us. Today, our people are looking forward to having not just one, but two massive roads that would criss-cross Amofu Nkerefi community, and run into the other parts of Nkerefi community. Not only that, this road will lead into our neighbouring community, Uburu, in Ebonyi State.
“The Nara – Nkerefi road, complete with its bridges project is of great significance to the people of Nkerefi. The same applies to the Mburubu – Nkerefi road, which is mainly a farm road.
It is one strategic infrastructure that will enhance community to community connectivity especially in terms of trade, business transactions, friendship and unity. Our farm and river products will have several willing, easy and accessible markets where we can make sales and make purchases and have value for the produce. In the past, bad roads have grossly contributed to the destruction of our farm products and created waste, and most of our parents who rely heavily in farming and trade have continually run into heavy losses after serious efforts to produce crops. This is about to end.
The Mburubu – Nkerefi road is one major road located in the heart of Mburubu and Nkerefi farms. What this means is that our farmers can now come out and quickly and easily convey their farm products directly to their choice markets, without having to go through too many rigours.
By bridging the gap between rural and urban areas, and the ones within the different rural communities, this project will stimulate economic activities, promote trade, and foster social integration.
“Governor Mbah’s focus on infrastructural development underscores the economic importance of these projects. The dualization of major roads, construction of new bridges, establishment of smart schools and other such projects is a testament to a visionary leadership committed to sustainable growth and improved living standards for all Ndi Enugu.
The approval and deployment of N183 billion for the construction of 141 roads in Enugu city and 20 rural roads, including ours is a massive step toward realizing the state’s vision of a $30 billion economy.
“Also, allocating over N400 billion to capital expenditure in the 2024 budget, with a capital expenditure to budget ratio exceeding 80%, underscores the government’s focus on tangible, long-term investments. Making infrastructure priorities, especially basic ones like roads, water, schools shows a deep understanding of the critical role they play in fostering economic development and social well-being.
“The Smart School project in Ishienu Amofu Nkerefi, as well as the Type 2 Health Center at Ohuani Amofu Nkerefi, and other laudable projects are serious interventions in the lives of our people, both young and old.
The appointment of our sons into the government by Dr Mbah also shows how much he thinks of our people. We are indeed grateful.
Thank you our governor, thank you our brother!
Signed,
Hon Ogbuefi Sunday Mbah (JP) aka SMC, the Ezeudo na Nkerefi.
