Fiery Rejoinder From Indigenous Hausa Of Katsina Against Campaign To Create Fulani-Dominated Emirates In Core Hausaland

Title: Katsina Belongs To The Hausa People — Not Fulani Empire

By: A Proud Indigenous Hausa Son of Katsina

“When false history reigns unchecked, truth begins to look like rebellion.”

Recently, a circulating petition titled “A Call to the Katsina State Government Under Hon. Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda to Create Seven New Emirates from the Original Katsina Emirate” emerged, falsely masquerading as the voice of Katsina people.

But let it be made clear: this so-called call does not represent the voice of the true indigenous Hausa people of Katsina. It is a desperate attempt by Fulani elites to fragment the historical legacy of the Hausa Emirate of Katsina — a land they neither founded nor culturally represent.

Katsina is a Hausa Kingdom — Not Fulani Inheritance

Before the Fulani-led Jihad of 1804, Katsina was a thriving Hausa kingdom with centuries of established governance, scholarship, commerce, and culture. The likes of the Sullubawa, Dallazawa, and other Fulani clans only emerged in positions of influence through colonial arrangements that preserved the spoils of the Sokoto Jihad not because of legitimate historical ownership.

Yes, the current Emir of Katsina is Fulani by descent but Katsina remains, at its core, Hausa land, and its people are predominantly Hausa by ethnicity, culture, and historical identity.

Post-Jihad Governance is Not Religious Empire

Since the British defeat of the Sokoto Caliphate in 1903, Nigeria has operated under modern statehood  not theocratic rule or inherited Jihadi authority. The traditional institutions today must serve the cultural and historical identity of their indigenous people. Fulani dominance in Hausa land through emirates inherited from military conquests has no place in a democratic republic guided by a constitution.

The Demographics Don’t Lie

Katsina’s population statistics are clear:

Hausa: 81.5%

Fulani: 11.5%

Others (Yoruba, Igbo, etc.): 7.0%

Any campaign to carve out Fulani-controlled emirates within Katsina under the guise of fairness is simply demographic manipulation and historical distortion. Any restructuring of traditional rulership should reflect the majority culture Hausa  not empower a numerical minority with divisive ambitions.

A Warning to Government and Lawmakers

We, the indigenous Hausa people of Katsina, call on His Excellency Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, and the Katsina State House of Assembly to firmly reject this divisive proposal. The Katsina Emirate is a symbol of Hausa unity and resilience, and allowing it to be fractured for Fulani micro-empires will sow discord, provoke instability, and undermine centuries of Hausa identity.

Time to Reclaim Hausa Royal Heritage

We further call on the government to initiate a dignified restoration of Hausa leadership in Katsina. The 1999 Nigerian Constitution protects indigenous cultural rights. It’s time for Hausa sons and daughters to reclaim their ancestral crowns  without interference from political or ethnic interests tied to 1804’s outdated Jihadist narrative.

To the Federal Institutions

We urge constitutional bodies and cultural preservation agencies to ensure that traditional institutions reflect the heritage of the land they represent. Let the Hausa people  the original custodians of Katsina  assume leadership of their historical throne, free from Fulani imposition.

We say NO to Fulani fragmentation of Katsina! We say YES to restoring Hausa dignity and truth!
